BonAccord is designed for learners who have reached an intermediate to advanced level in French, (English A-Level or Scottish CSYS) but who have had little practice in translating into the language.

In each exercise BonAccord presents a text in English to be translated into French.
The student types freely.
BonAccord is able to recognise virtually every possible acceptable way of translating each sentence. It can also respond usefully to most language errors predictable at this level.
BonAccord checks the proposed translation, word by word, blocking unacceptable versions and commenting on predicted errors where they occur. In this way the student's work is corrected while it is being done.
BonAccord will check grammar and vocabulary using a "fuzzy matcher" to nudge the learner towards correct solutions. The system is very user-friendly.
Each BonAccord passage should take an average student from 1-2 hours to work through. At the end of each session the learner's translation, as well as the original text and a suggested "model" translation, can be printed out.
BonAccord is designed for individual use, as shown above.
It can also be used for small group teaching, as an electronic blackboard.
